MUSICAL DIRECTOR - TIM HOOPER
Tim studied music at Oxford University where he was
Organ scholar at St Edmund Hall. He was also the conductor several college choral
societies and the Oxford Sinfonietta. Performances included Elgar The Dream of Gerontius
in the Sheldonian Theatre.
Tim also regularly accompanies opera companies including The Carl Rosa Opera Company,
Cameo Opera, Hatstand Opera and The New Savoyards of London. He has performed with
hhs companies at the Barbican and St. Martin in the Fields as well as in venues troughhout
the UK.
He also appears regularly on the concert platform in recitals with singers and has
performed a wide variety of music including the song cycles of Schubert, Schumann,
Brahms, Dvořák and Michael Head. Tim is also a successful solo pianist in his own
right, performing recitals across the South east.
ACCOMPANIST - TIM SMITH
Tim has a wide ranging musical career in choral music, opera,
recital and musical theatre. As well as accompanying Hutton & Shenfield Choral Society,
he also plays The Havering Singers and also for the Valentine Singers in Ilford and
was for many years the pianist for its predecessor, the multi-Eisteddford winning
Ivor Evans choir. With these choirs he has rehearsed most fo the major choral repertoire
and taken part in many performances including Carmina Burana, Britten’s War Requiem,
Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonelle and Lambert’s Rio Grande.
Tim became conductor of Bournemouth Bach Choir in 1992 and with them has given many
highly acclaimed performances including all the major choral works of J S Bach and
annual performances of Handel’s Messiah at the Christchurch Priory at Christmas.
Since moving to London in 1997 he has worked with Goldsmiths College Sinfonia and
Chorus and is now Conductor-in-Association at Goldsmiths which includes Musical
Director of OperaGold, the Goldsmiths’ opera company which is directed by Nan Christie.
From 1998 to 2001, Tim was director of the Grange Choral Society, Christchurch with
whom he gave large scale choral works. In 2000 he formed the Christchurch Sinfonia,
a professional freelance chamber orchestra which performs regularly in the South,
with Tim as conductor and Musical Director.
Tim became Musical Director of Hutton & Shenfield Choral Society in 2001.
In his home town of Bournemouth, Tim became the conductor of the ochestras of Gli
Amici della Musica (Dorset Young Musicians) in 1983, performing such works as Shostakovich
Symphonies No 5 & 10 and Mahler Symphony No 5. For Gli Amici’s 25th Anniversary
Reunion Concert, Tim was invited as guest conductor to perform Mahler Symphony No
2 Resurrection in the Winter Gardens.
